Care guide
Care
leather.
Well-cared-for leather lasts decades. These are our workshop’s recommendations.
Before you begin
Leather is a living material.
Our products are made with high-quality materials. Leather is natural and may show variations or irregularities in tone — they’re the mark of its authenticity. No two leathers are the same, and that’s exactly what makes each piece unique.
Materials can be affected by friction and exposure to external factors: rain, heat, abrasive substances. Contact with inks, perfumes, makeup, alcohol, oils, and solvents causes irreversible damage. Preventive care makes the difference.
Deep cleaning of leather garments should always be done at specialized dry cleaners — not at home.
From the workshop
"Storing pieces in their open-weave fabric bag — like the one we include with every product — prevents moisture condensation and protects the material long term."
— Casa Lopez Workshop, Buenos Aires
Essential care
Four common situations
and how to handle them.
Preventive Protection
Apply colorless silicone or furniture polish to a dry cloth — never directly onto the leather. This forms a natural barrier against moisture and dust.
Liquid Spills
Dry immediately with a clean cloth without rubbing. Then use an absorbent towel and let air dry in the shade. Never in the sun or with a dryer — heat damages leather fibers.
Oil or Grease Stains
Do not try to clean them at home. Leather is skin and absorbs these fluids quickly. Take the piece to a specialized leather cleaner as soon as possible.
Correct Storage
Store your pieces in their fabric bag in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Never in plastic bags — leather needs to breathe to stay in good condition.
No exceptions
Never use these products
for your leather.
- Glycerin soap
- Abrasive cleaners or varnish
- Detergent or other cleaning products
- Alcohol or ammonia water
- Inks, perfumes, or makeup in direct contact
- Non-specific leather waterproofers or sealants
Specific care
Materials that require
special care.
Patent Leather
Glossy finish achieved with layers of varnish or lacquer. Popular for evening bags and dress accessories. Prone to losing its shine from friction.
- Use a patent leather-specific protector.
- Clean with a soft cloth and cold water — do not rub hard.
- Avoid rubbing against materials that transfer color (jeans, pens).
- Keep away from dusty, greasy surfaces, heat, and moisture.
- May transfer color to light fabrics.
Suede
Soft, velvety texture. Delicate with stains, water, and friction. Requires specific products — common conditioners can stain it permanently.
- Use a suede-specific protector before first use.
- Brush gently in one direction to remove dust.
- Avoid rubbing against garments that transfer color (jeans).
- Keep away from dust, grease, and moisture.
- May transfer color to light fabrics.
Metallic
Finish that mimics metals (gold, silver, copper). Flexible like regular leather but sensitive to friction — rubbing can wear down its shine and original color.
- Clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth.
- Avoid friction with rough surfaces.
- Do not apply conditioners or chemical products.
- Store in a cool, dry place, away from the sun.
Hair-on leather
Natural hair hides. Very sensitive to friction — rubbing wears the hair and damages the piece. They require special care in use and storage.
- Avoid friction with rough surfaces.
- Brush gently in the direction of the hair.
- For stains or damage, consult a specialized dry cleaner.
