You need to read them without pulling them out of the plastic, and sometimes you need to carry them without carrying the whole wallet. The Patrick solves both with a piece that comes out: a document holder with clear windows that lives inside and lifts out whole.
The leather
Argentine cowhide with a smooth finish, and leather on the inside too. In a wallet opened and closed every day, the lining is the first thing to fail: synthetic comes away at the edge of the slots, and that is where it starts falling apart. There is no fabric here to come away. The maker's mark is blind-embossed into the leather, with no metal plate.
The build
Bifold format. Eight card slots split between the two sides, two full-length bill compartments and two flat pockets. The document holder is a separate piece, with leather covers and clear windows on both sides: it opens like a small book so you can read what is inside, and lifts out completely when you do not need it. With it in, the wallet closes at 3 centimetres; without it, it sits flatter.
In use
11 cm wide, 9 cm high and 3 cm thick, 150 grams. Between the fixed slots and the holder there is room for fourteen cards, which is more than anyone carries daily — and that is the point: the ones you rarely use live in the removable piece, left in the glovebox or a drawer and taken along only when you need them.
