A twenty-centimetre clutch makes you choose: the phone or the wallet. The Jenna is twenty-seven across, and those extra seven are what let the phone go in lying flat with room beside it. That is the difference between an evening clutch and an evening clutch that also works.
The leather
Cowhide in two finishes. The grained one, with a visible pore and a matte surface, and the embossed one, with the pattern pressed into the same leather. At two centimetres thick overall, everything you see is leather: there is no frame inside holding the shape — the cut holds it.
The build
Flat body with a large flap covering two thirds of the front and closing at the bottom. The base is not straight: it describes an arc rising towards the centre, so the clutch rests on its two corners rather than flat — it is the only line that steps outside the rectangle, and it is the one that gives the piece its movement. On the side, under the edge of the flap, a metal ring to hang a chain from.
In use
27 cm wide, 15 cm high and 2 cm deep. It takes the phone lying flat, a slim wallet beside it, keys and a lipstick. What it will not take is anything with bulk: two centimetres of depth are two centimetres, and that is the bargain a clutch makes. Carried in the hand or under the arm.
