The cut is not that of a classic belt bag. Instead of a rectangular box on the hip, the Lisa is a wedge: thirty centimetres long tapering to a point, with the zip running diagonally from end to end. Worn across the chest, that diagonal ends up horizontal and within reach — you open it without taking it off.
The leather
Cowhide in two finishes. The grained one, with a visible pore, takes the constant rub against a coat best, which is exactly what happens to something worn across the body all day. The embossed one carries the pattern pressed into the same leather, in relief.
The build
Wedge-shaped body, wide at one end and tapering at the other, with a base that gives it eight centimetres of depth. The zip runs the whole length on the diagonal, with a leather pull. Long adjustable strap on a buckle, held by metal rings riveted at both points of the body: shorten it to wear it at the waist, lengthen it to wear it across the chest or the back. The hardware is on show and riveted, not glued.
In use
30 cm long, 20 cm high and 8 cm deep. It takes a wallet, a phone, keys, glasses in their case and a small bottle of water lying down. This is one of the large ones: it is not for carrying the bare minimum, it is for not carrying a handbag at all. And the eight centimetres of depth mean what goes in sits loose rather than pressed flat against you.
At thirty centimetres, a belt bag stops being an accessory and becomes the bag.
