Two bags can measure the same and not hold the same. The Prudence is 22 centimetres across by 16 high, like any small handbag, but the body is a half-circle: the widest part is in the middle, not at the top. That is where bulky things go straight in — a glasses case, a small bottle, a thick wallet — the ones you have to lay on their side in a rectangle of the same size.
The leather
Cowhide in three finishes. The smooth one shows the curve cleanest, with nothing interrupting it. The embossed one carries the pattern pressed into the same leather, in relief. And the printed ones carry the design over the hide, which is where the model steps out of the plain.
The build
Half-circle body with a flat base and a closed arc. The zip runs the whole arc, from one corner of the base to the other: it does not just open at the top, it opens side to side and the whole interior is in view at once. Fixed hand strap, wide and flat, stitched at both ends of the arc. And at the lower corners, metal studs that act as feet — the leather never touches the table or the floor.
In use
22 cm wide, 16 cm high and 7 cm deep. It takes a wallet, a phone, keys, a glasses case and the day's things, all standing up thanks to the seven centimetres of depth. What it will not take is a tablet or an A5 notebook upright: 16 cm of height is the limit. Carried in the hand or hung from the wrist — the strap is fixed and short, it does not go on the shoulder.
