A flat toiletry bag forces the bottles to lie down, and a bottle lying down leaks. The Elio has ten centimetres of depth over a flat base: deodorant, shaving cream and scent go in standing, in the order you reach for them, and they are still standing when the case is opened at the other end.
The leather
Grained cowhide, with a visible pore and a matte surface. It is the finish that best takes what happens to a toiletry bag: it travels crushed inside a case, rubs against everything, and every so often something drips on it. Grain absorbs marks instead of displaying them, and it wipes clean with a cloth.
The build
Flat-based body with a domed top, the zip running along the curve and down at both ends: open, the mouth gapes and you can see the bottom without groping for anything. A leather loop at each end, to pull it out of a packed case in one go. On the front, two vertical seams divide the face into three panels and give it its poise. Casa Lopez logo blind-embossed in the centre.
In use
23 cm wide, 15 cm high and 10 cm deep. The 100 ml bottles — the ones you can take on a plane — go in standing, with room beside them for a brush, a razor and the rest. The ten centimetres of depth are the difference: a bag with five makes you choose what to lay down. And at fifteen centimetres high, a tall bottle of scent stands up too.
