A large handbag usually makes you choose at the counter: short handles and it is carried in the hand, long straps and it goes on the shoulder. The Bibi does not make you choose. Both straps fasten on a buckle, like a belt, and you reset the length whenever you need to — short to carry it in the hand, long when your hands have to be free.
The leather
Cowhide in three finishes. The grained one has a visible pore and a matte surface, and it absorbs the rubbing of daily use. The embossed one carries a basket weave pressed into the same leather, which gives it relief without adding weight. The patent one is smooth and glossy, more formal and easier to wipe clean. On all three the Casa Lopez name is blind-embossed on the front, with no plates or appliqués.
The build
Rectangular body with a wide mouth and a narrower base, with the lower corners rounded and reinforced with a separate panel. The mouth closes on a zip that runs from side to side, with a leather pull at each end: closed, nothing is on show and nothing falls out when you bend over. Two leather straps stitched to the body and fastened on buckles, adjustable in length. Inside, a pocket for the phone.
In use
40 cm wide, 28 cm high and 13 cm deep, 900 grams empty. This is a genuinely large bag: a 15-inch laptop goes in upright, an A4 folder goes in sideways, plus a toiletry bag and the day's things, and there is still room to spare. The thirteen centimetres of depth are what let all of that stand up instead of stacking in layers. Worn in the hand or on the shoulder, depending on how the straps are set.
