Keys are the first thing you look for and the last thing you find. Loose at the bottom of a bag they turn up once you no longer need them, and in a pocket they catch on everything else. A 12 cm strap changes that: it lifts them out of the bottom and leaves them hanging somewhere fixed.
The leather
Argentine cowhide, braided by hand in Buenos Aires. The braid is what gives it the texture and also what makes it last: several thin strips interlaced instead of one thick one, so the wear spreads out. With use the braid softens and settles into the way you hold it.
How it is made
A leather collar at the top closes the braid and holds a swivel metal snap hook with its split ring. The keys go on the ring; the hook clips the strap wherever you want it. It rotates, which keeps it from ending up twisted every time you clip it on, and it opens with your thumb and closes on its own.
Living with it
12 cm long and 60 grams: it hangs without pulling at your pocket. It fits inside a closed hand, so you can walk to the door holding the keys rather than fishing for them. It also works as a zipper pull on a bag, clipped to the slider.
