A folder without a closure is a stack of papers with covers: it only has to tip over on a car seat and it starts shedding pages out the side. The Brian closes with a zip that runs around three sides, so it can be turned over, stood on edge or dropped into a bag with nothing coming out.
The leather
Argentine cowhide with a pronounced grain and a matte surface. It is the right leather for a piece that gets set down on tables, carried under an arm and pushed into bags: the grain absorbs the rubbing instead of showing it, while on smooth leather every mark stays visible. The logo is blind-embossed, with no metal plate.
The build
A metal zip runs along three sides, with a leather pull. Inside, one side holds card slots, a flat pocket and a loop for a pen; the other, a full-height pocket over a fabric lining. The edges are finished with perimeter stitching, which is what keeps the folder flat over time — without it the covers start to splay and the piece loses its line.
In use
25 cm wide, 32 cm high and 2 cm thick, 800 grams. It takes A4 sheets unfolded, with enough margin that they go in and out without catching. Those 2 centimetres of thickness say what it is for: papers, a notepad, a couple of cards — not a laptop. It is the folder you carry on its own to a meeting, with no briefcase around it.
