The Gilbert is flat. Six centimeters deep and forty wide: it goes under your arm, onto the passenger seat, into an overhead bin. It isn't a briefcase that stands on its own on a desk — it's a piece that travels with you.
The leather
Cowhide worked in Buenos Aires. The grain stays visible and the body is soft: the Gilbert has no internal frame, so it takes the shape of whatever is inside. The lining is a lighter leather, which means you find what you are after without looking twice.
The build
Horizontal rectangular body, no bulk. Zipper closure running the full width across the top. Two rolled handles stitched to the front and back panels. A full-width horizontal zip pocket on the front, for what you need without opening the piece. The top corners are reinforced with rivets. Inside, a light leather lining with two slip pockets and three vertical pen loops. Casa Lopez logo embossed on the front, in the same tone as the leather.
In use
40 cm wide, 25 cm high and 6 cm deep, 950 grams. An A4 folder fits lying flat with room to spare on either side. A 14-inch laptop goes in easily and a 15-inch fits; the 25 cm height is the limit, so a 16-inch sits right at the edge. What does not fit is an A4 standing upright, or a weekend's clothes: the Gilbert is for the workday.
