The Joey opens like a folder. The zip runs along the top edge and continues down the side, so the cover lifts all the way and you see everything at once — no reaching in and feeling around.
The leather
Cowhide worked in Buenos Aires, with a marked grain. Unlike a soft portfolio, the Joey has body: it stands on its own on the desk and doesn't sag when empty. With use the leather softens at the corners, and that is when it starts to look used in the good sense.
The build
A slim, horizontal rectangular body. An angled zip closure: it runs along the whole top edge and down the side to near the base. Two short rolled handles. The front is plain, with no buckles or visible hardware: the only relief is the Casa Lopez logo embossed in the centre, in the same colour as the leather. Outside, there is also a 28 × 15 cm zip pocket for what you reach for often. Inside, two 14 × 14 cm pockets, three pen holders and three slots for cards and documents.
In use
35 cm wide, 27 cm high and 7 cm deep, 550 grams. An A4 folder fits lying flat, and a laptop, iPad or tablet of up to 14 inches goes in comfortably; a 15-inch one doesn't fit. It is a briefcase for meetings and office days: what you bring to a table, not what you take on a trip.
