The Rafael has three ways in: the flap on top, the pocket at the front and the two zips at the sides. It isn't a whim — on a backpack forty centimetres wide, having to open everything each time you look for something is what wears you down.
The leather
Cowhide with a smooth finish, the stitching in a contrasting tone marking out each panel. Smooth leather shows the work: you can see where the stitch runs, how the flap folds, how the buckle sits. With use the shine deepens at the points of contact.
How it's made
A generous body with a flat base. The top flap closes with two metal-buckled straps and carries the Casa Lopez logo embossed at its centre; underneath, a drawstring closes the mouth. At the front, a large pocket with its own flap and buckle. On each side, a vertical zip giving direct access to the main compartment without opening the flap. Rolled handle on top and adjustable leather shoulder straps.
Living with it
40 cm wide, 39 high and 15 deep, 1.3 kilos. It's the largest in the line: laptop, folders, a day's clothes. The side zips are for what you need in the moment — the ticket, the charger — without undoing the closure on top.
