The leather
Argentine cowhide over a firm structure: the bag stands up even empty, which is what separates a travel bag from a sack. Over the years the leather stops being new and starts being used — it softens where it is handled, the handles take the shape of your grip, and the edges mark before the faces do.
How it is made
The zip runs the length of the upper arc and down one side, so it opens wide and you pack looking at the bottom. The two rounded handles are set with rivets, and the detachable strap clips onto the side rings with snap hooks — take it off when it is in the way. On the front, a flap pocket with the monogram blind embossed, for whatever you need without opening the bag. Inside, a zipped pocket of 18 × 16 and an open one of 39 × 16 running the full width.
Living with it
40 cm wide by 29 tall and 22 deep, 1.4 kg empty. A long weekend fits without cramming. Carry it by the handles or across the body with the strap. If you need more volume, the Toronto is 47 cm wide and closes with a turn lock instead of a zip.
It stands up on its own, and it gets better with the years.
