It opens all the way, the way travel bags used to. The body is wider at the base than at the top, so the mouth stays clear and you pack looking at the bottom instead of reaching in blind.
The leather
Naturally grained Argentine cowhide, evenly tanned. The base and the side gussets are cut as separate pieces — that is where the bag rests and rubs, so the reinforcement sits exactly where the wear happens. With use the body softens a little and the bag settles better, without losing its shape at the top.
How it is made
There is no zip. It closes with a flap that falls over the front and a turn lock set on a horizontal strap: a quarter turn and it is done. You can open it with one hand while the other is full, which is precisely when anyone opens a travel bag. The two hand straps rise from the sides and meet at the top in a padded grip: the weight is shared between both sides instead of pulling on a single seam, which is what counts once the bag is full. At the sides, two rings for the detachable 115 cm strap, which comes with a shoulder pad. Inside, a zipped pocket of 30 × 20 and another for a phone.
Living with it
47 cm wide by 38 tall and 20 deep: around 35 litres, a full weekend with no juggling. It weighs 1.85 kg empty. Those 20 cm of depth are what change things — a pair of shoes stands upright instead of lying flat and taking the whole floor. For everyday office use, the Portfolios and Folders are a different scale.
