A card holder's job is to disappear. This one is a centimetre thick: it slips into a jacket pocket without distorting it, and into a back pocket without announcing itself when you sit down. Everything else follows from that.
The leather
Argentine cowhide, cut from a single folded piece. There is no lining: inside you see the reverse of the same hide, and the top edge is cut in a curve so that you do. That is a construction decision, not a saving — a lining would add millimetres, which is precisely what this object cannot afford.
How it is made
Two compartments: the main pocket, and a slot on the front for whatever you reach for constantly. Four metal rivets hold the corners, which is where a card holder gives way with use. The stitching runs along the edge and the edges are left raw, unbound: you see the leather where it was cut.
Living with it
10 cm tall by 7 wide, 1 cm thick and 100 grams. It softens over the first few weeks and takes the shape of what you carry. Unlined leather marks with use, and that is the point: six months in, it looks like no one else's.
