The inside pocket of a jacket is tall and narrow, and almost every wallet is wide and short. So they go in sideways, sit as a lump against the chest and print through the cloth. The Austin is turned the other way: 8 centimetres wide, it opens like a book and goes in straight where the others go in forced.
The leather
Argentine cowhide with a smooth finish, and leather on the inside too. This is a piece carried against the body, and it takes on that warmth: smooth leather answers by darkening evenly, without blotches, and the shine deepens where your fingers hold it. The edges are sealed and stitched.
The build
Vertical fold: it opens like a small book rather than sideways. Three card slots on each side, set horizontally so they can be read without turning your wrist. Behind each block of slots, a flat pocket running the full height. One bill compartment, not two — in this format the note goes in folded once, and one is enough for what you carry on you.
In use
8 cm wide, 12 cm high and 2 cm thick, 100 grams. This is the wallet for an inside jacket or shirt pocket, not for a back trouser pocket: there the vertical format works against you. Six slots for the everyday cards, and notes folded once.
